Rwanda has made history with the construction of its first mRNA vaccine factory, a groundbreaking project that has the potential to revolutionize healthcare on the African continent.
The project, which is a partnership between the Rwandan government and German biotechnology company BioNTech, will produce mRNA vaccines against diseases like COVID-19, malaria, HIV
What you should know:
The project was inaugurated on 19th December 2023 in Rwanda and the completion date has been set for 2024, while operation is set to commence in 2025.
The project will among other things help in boosting vaccine access in the continent, developing vaccines for the continent’s specific needs, and jobs and wealth creation, while also transferring knowledge.
The launch had in attendance African leaders, as well as development partners and leading experts in the health industry across the world.
